Refreshing

There are a few things that cause many Christians to achieve less than God wants them to. One of the main ones, I think, is immature, romantic relationships. In I Kissed Dating Goodbye Harris talks of why he thinks dating is wrong and now he sets out what to do when you find the person you think you may want to marry. This book is NOT legalistic although Harris does say he thinks couples should have boundaries and he truthfully tells us what his limits were. It was amazingly refreshing to hear someone talking of keeping yourself pure for your future spouse and suggesting ways of doing this. A definite buy. I would suggest this book to people of all ages and marriage status. To help in your own life and to give advice to others.

Wow everyone was asking the question what should i do when i find someone?And believe me Joshua Harris delivers! Suprisingly down to earth and very practical in application. The book tackles deeper issues such as purity and past sexual sin in a mature and scriptural way. He proves that old fashioned values arent out of date but actually very relevant leading to a trusting, God centered realationship based on more than sexual attraction and a need to get married. Thanks a lot mate

Love, not rules

This book caused me serious concerns. Its legalistic approach serves a guilt-trip upon all who have not followed Harriss guidelines, and even though he says that these were just what he and his wife found right before marriage, he contradicts this statement numerous times. For example, despite saying that he feels it might be possible for some couple to kiss to the glory of God before marriage, he then goes on to say that kissing is the beginning of the two becoming one flesh, implying thsat this is the beginning of the sexual act. Like Harris, I do not believe that sex before marriage is the ideal, but the Bible lays little more than this down, and Jesus is much more concerned with pharasaic rule-making. Would it be loving for a boyfriend not to hold his girlfriend close if she needed comfort, for example? Is it impossible to conceive that a man and woman can kiss each other without sexual thoughts entering their minds? Our guidelines for physical relationships before marriage need to be directed by love and not rules.
